Hello. My name is Easton Andersen. I was born in Minnesota, but moved to Nevada as a kid. This is where I resided until 3 weeks ago when I moved into the Woodlawn Residential Commons at the University of Chicago.
Tonight, on October 10th of 2026, I was struck with an ardent desire to create something. Anything. I’m sitting alone in a dimly lit dormitory. My roommate is probably out socializing, an endeavor I am too intimidated to pursue at the current moment. I feel like I am contributing absolutely nothing to the world at the moment, and this ultimately meaningless blog is my attempt to remedy this. Maybe, in getting my thoughts out there and sharing, I will learn something about myself. Perhaps, years down the line, these posts will give me something to remember the days by. Small moments or events that would someday be forgotten, ‘like tears in rain’.
Pretentious Blade Runner reference aside, I do truly hope I can maintain the habit of writing here. I have two bad habits that converge in making any endeavor truly difficult. One of these habits is that I do not start a routine I wish to begin, because it’s the most overwhelming part. Making that jump and pushing my comfort zone out of its initial stasis. I’m sure I have started many journals over the years that have literally a single entry, that’s how bad I am at maintaining any routine in a meaningful way. The second habit is, after I have made this jump, I fall victim to the second fear, one that is essentially the same as what drives the first bad habit. I feel afraid that I won’t be able to stay consistent or follow through, and that makes it more appealing to simply give up. It’s almost as if making the decision to add something to my life is impossible to wrap my head around, so I half-ass its introduction into my routine. In writing this, I am essentially signing a lifelong soul-binding contract to write in this blog for the rest of my LIFE. That’s how my brain works.
I think the content here is gonna be a lot of random ramblings about things I’m passionate about, as well as discussing my day-to-day stuff more akin to a boring diary. I had the realization that I’m terrible at remembering to take photos and remember life. I don’t necessarily believe in photographing and posting every moment the way other people do, but I should have more of a record so these moments can live a little bit longer.
A few more things about me, just to set the scene: I love video games, movies, and I can beat the game Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy in 5 minutes. I’m a bit of a picky eater but I’ve gotten better about that over recent years. I’m thinking about studying to be a financial consultant although that decision is years down the road. I have friends, family, and a girlfriend, all of whom I am quite fond of, although distance has made these people farther away than ever before.
Right now I feel somewhat tired, insecure, and lonely. I don’t imagine these problems are unique, nor will they persist for any significant length of time. I just think addressing this is part of what’ll make it so satisfying when I do feel any stability in my life, I’ll look at how I thought the world was ending at every mild inconvenience that comes with the transition into college. I’m also very loved and supported by the people around me, which I think will be a common theme throughout my musings here. I’m signing off now, but I WILL be writing here again. That’s a promise to you, to the nobody reading this, and to myself.
